Orange Democratic Movement has accused the Jubilee government of planning to arrest Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya over the chaos that rock Moses Wetangula's presidential launch.
In a statement by ODM communication officer Philip Etale, the government plans to arrest the governor in a bid to thwart the opposition's campaign ahead of the next general election.
"We are disturbed with Jubilee government's unorthodox means to try and slow our pace by arresting and arraigning in the court of party members and officials on trumped charges," read the statement.
ODM further accused the government of misusing the Director of Public Prosecution's office on personal interest.
"We are particularly concerned with the misuse of DPP's office by the government and other politicians for selfish interests. The DPP's office is and must remain impartial and independent as stipulated in the constitution," the statement added.
The opposition further questioned the government's motive in attempting to arrest Oparanya yet he did not attend the botched rally.
"Neither ODM party leader , Raila Odinga and his Deputy Oparanya attended the rally. The question is, have the police investigated and find out who threw teargas on the podium," read the statement further.
