Party for Development and Reforms (PDR) leaders in Wajir allied to Jubilee have denied claims of joining the opposition National Super Alliance (NASA).
Gubernatorial aspirant Ahmed Muhumed and his running mate Abdihafidh Yarrow, Fatuma Gedi (woman rep candidate) and senatorial contender Mohamed Abikar while speaking to supporters in Wajir town said the party backs Jubilee and would rally support for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election.
“Reports appearing that PDR in Wajir County has joined opposition outfit NASA are a lie and propaganda,” said Abukar Gacal, the lead campaigner for Jubilee team in the county.
Gacal was responding to statements on social media which claim PDR leaders in the Wajir had decamped to NASA, less than a month to the August general election.
“W are in Jubilee to stay,” he said as quoted by the Star.
Gubernatorial contender Muhumed said unlike in 2013 when the region supported Cord and opposition leader Raila Odinga, the political wave in the county had shifted to the ruling Jubilee Party.
“As a region, we don’t want to repeat the same mistake we made in 2013 and voted for the opposition,” he said.
“We want to be in government this time round and by the look of things, it is Jubilee Party that will carry the day.”Governor Ahmed Abdullahi is leading the NASA campaigns in the arid county.
He is confident Raila will garner majority votes in the county to win the election and ascend to State House.
