A Kisumu Jubilee senatorial aspirant whose papers were on Sunday rejected by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries (IEBC), has been cleared to vie.
Winston Ochoro Ayoki was on Monday issued with a certificate of clearance by Kisumu Returning Officer John Cox Lorionokou at Tom Mboya Labour College.
According to the Returning Officer, the IEBC had earlier rejected Ayoki’s papers after he had failed to produce a letter and a card from his Jubilee Party.
Lorionokou also turned-up with a Proposer and Seconder whom according to IEBC records, were Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) supporters. While addressing journalists after clearance, Ayoki dismissed claims by IEBC that he presented a Proposer and Seconder from a different political party.“A malicious person put their names there, I left ODM many years ago and I don’t even wish to go back there,” said Ayoki. He mentioned that claims of Kisumu County being an ODM stronghold could not deter him from his quest for the Senator seat. “People you see around here are all Jubilee, this is the party that rules.''Other candidates who will be vying for the Kisumu Senatorial seat are Millicent Ambudho (Independent), Robert Chore (Ford Kenya) and ODM's Outa Fred.Kisumu County Women Representative aspirants will on Tuesday and Wednesday present their papers before the IEBC for clearance.Governor Jack Ranguma will on Thursday present his papers, seeking re-election as an Independent candidate.Jubilee’s Atieno Otieno will on the same day, seek IEBC’s clearance to battle for Kisumu governor Seat.On Friday, Kisumu incumbent Senator Professor Anyang’ Nyong’ will also present his papers seeking approval to vie for Kisumu governor seat on an ODM ticket.
