Speaking in Mombasa on Tuesday, Joho asked ODM and Cord members to be wary of Jubilee tactics aimed at ensuring the coalition loses in next year's election.

“As the Cord family. we must remain steadfast and shun anybody who comes dangling a carrot. They tried it with me but I was too strong for them so they went for the likes of Ababu Namwamba,” said Joho.

The governor also warned President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto against using state funds to 'destroy' ODM, saying that tax payers were going through a rough time in raising the funds, to contribute to the country’s budget.

The governor's sentiments were echoed by Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir, who blasted the MPS who had decamped from Cord, calling them betrayers.

Ababu Namwamba caused ripples in ODM by resigning from his secretary general post and vowing to lead a delegation of western MPS to form a third force which he said will work with the government.
