National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has said Jubilee Party is backing the newly nominated Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials.
Presidnet Uhuru Kenyatta forwarded seven names to parlaiment for vetting pending appointments when the August House resumes.
"The nominees represent the face of Kenya because every side is represented. The gender rule has also been observed in line with the law," he said.
Speaking to the press in Garissa town on Saturday, Duale lashed out at those disputing the nomination of Wafula Chebukati as the commission chairperson.
Duale said it is not provided anywhere in the Constitution or the IEBC Act that the top officials should not come from the same community.
He was reacting to concerns that Chebukati and CEO Ezra Chiloba cannot work for the same commission because they both come from the same community and county.
"The two individuals have been recruited in a very fair, transparent, competitive and vigorous process based on merit," said Duale.
“Those saying the two cannot work at the commission at the same time because they come from the same community believe in ethnic politics."
