NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga is accusing the Jubilee government of using the unga shortage to bribe voters into the re-election of President Kenyatta.

Odinga says there is a plan to release unga towards the election date as a bribe, to convince Kenyans to vote for them.

Speaking on Sunday when he visited different outlets to the all familiar empty shelves, Odinga said the shortage was intentionally created.

The government subsidized maize flour is not easily available, and when it does, it is limited to the number of the packets one can buy.

“The Jubilee administration wants to sterve Kenyans into desperation, submission and surrender. The administration is withholding services in order to provide the goods in the final weeks to the elections so that relief food can be used as a tool to buy supporters,” said Odinga.

According to Odinga, the government has not taken any measure to address the food shortage.

“All the little maize that we have has been imported by private companies that are also having difficulties to the Kenyans. The government has not imported a grain of maize,” he added.

While accusing the jubilee government of deliberately avoiding addressing the unga crisis, Odinga said if elected to government, he will move with speed to correct the situation.

“Food security is the most important thing for any functional government, we have talked about this before, we have been here before, in 2009 and 2010 we were here,” he went on.

Nasa feels the government is letting the crisis prevail for the benefit of government and other individuals importing the maize.
