A campaign rally for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s reelection ended prematurely on Tuesday at Kemera market after suspected NASA supporters attacked Jubilee caravan.
Witnesses say NASA supporters were angered by the team’s persistent criticism on opposition leader Raila Odinga, a move that may have agitated them.
“NASA youths were angered by attacks on Odinga and this agitated them leading to the attack. Fortunately, Jubilee team left hastily,” said James Ogamba, a businessman in the region.
For about one hour, another witness said, NASA supporters blocked Kisii – Nyamira highway, accusing Jubilee supporters of demeaning the opposition veteran leader.
Some of the leaders in the convoy included North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko and his Kitutu Masaba counterpart Shadrack Mose.
“They blocked the road and chanted anti – Jubilee slogans. I also heard them insisting that there will be no voting on October,” added Winnie Nyangaresi.
Such Jubilee – NASA rivalry has become synonymous in Gusii politics with Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria suffering a similar fate a week earlier.
