Jubilee and Cord have taken long to solve the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) stalemate. Both political camps have only perfected in trading accusations against each other on what should be done and why. However, this should not be the case. IEBC has been accused of rigging the 2013 elections in favour of Jubilee. The opposition thus believes the commission is laying down plans to rig elections in favour of Jubilee come 2017 again. The ongoing lack of trust in the electoral body does not augur well for the 2017 elections. In May, Cord held countrywide demos in a bid to oust the IEBC officials and push for the selection of a new team.Similarly, it has called for the acquisition of new IEBC kits in readiness for 2017 elections. With just under eight months to elections, the tag-of-war between the government and the opposition should stop. The trading of accusations is only creating uncertainty in what might transpire after the 2017 elections. The division of ideologies is also fanning political tension that might erupt into violence. Cord leaders Raila Odinga, Moses Wetang'ula and Kalonzo Musyoka and the government led by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto should save Kenyans from this anxiety being fanned by their lack of understanding.If solved early, it may save the country from the 2007-08 hellhole that the country plunged in due to election disputes.
