Senate Leader of Majority Prof Kithure Kindiki on Sunday lashed out at former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth after he officially declared to run for Nairobi governor's seat on Jubilee ticket.
Speaking during a church service at ACK Kairi in Mathioya, Murang'a County, Kindiki said Kenneth 'betrayed' President Uhuru Kenyatta by running against him for president in 2013.
"Kenneth is a political opportunist who has now come to seek refuge in Uhuru's Jubilee Party. We have not forgotten that he abandoned the President when he needed him most in 2013," said Kindiki.
The lawmaker said Jubilee will be cautious to endorse his candidature as he had not been with the party during its most trying moments.
"Where was he during the harrowing ICC trials of both President Uhuru and DP Ruto? He should not come to us now that he wants Jubilee support on his gubernatorial bid," he remarked.
On Sunday, Kenneth, who was accompanied by several MPs from Nairobi among them Starehe MP Maina Kamanda and Nairobi Women Representative Rachel Shebesh, promised to change the city if elected governor saying that he is the right candidate for the job.
