Marsabit Governor Mohamud Ali has rallied county leadership to block appointment of his predecessor Ukur Yatani to cabinet.
Among three names that were included in President Uhuru Kenyatta's cabinet, Yatani was one of chief beneficiary.
But on Thursday, Ali insisted that the appointment 'undermines' his position as governor and was meant to create another center of power in the county.
"As leaders, we were not consulted and I promise to ensure the name does not make through in vetting.
"This is an attempt to create two centers of power. It is unacceptable and the president could not reach us for consultations. This will not be let go," he said perhaps in reference to Yatani's anticipated opposition.
While Yatani is a close confidant of President Uhuru Kenyatta, Ali is an ally of Deputy President William Ruto since their days in defunct URP.
Pundits say Ali's latest stand could reflect the wider rift between Uhuru and Ruto which Jubilee has persistently downplayed.
