A Jubilee governor has dismissed claims that cracks have emerged in the ruling party over the reelection of Turkana governor as the chairman of the Council of Governors (CoG).
Mandera county boss Ali Roba said there were no divisions between Jubilee governors insisting they were united and arrived at the CoG leadership through consensus.
"The claims of divisions have been crafted to drive a wedge between the governors," he told the Nation.
Roba was responding to reports that governors allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta's and those of Deputy President William Ruto favoured different candidates.
Sunday Nation reported that Ruto allies joined their NASA counterparts to back Nanok, abandoning Uhuru's favourite candidate, Kwale governor Salim Mvurya.
The paper further reported that governors from pastoralist communities backed Nanok who was elected on Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement party (ODM).
Roba maintained the county bosses resolved the matter through consensus to avoid splitting the Council along party lines.
"What we want is for the two levels of government to work closely. We discussed the best interest of the CoG and the country because we don't want divisions," the Mandera chief executive said.
