Mombasa gubernatorial aspirant Suleiman Shahbal has warned Kenyans against electing ‘incompetent’ opposition aspirants.

Shahbal who will during the August poll face off with Governor Hassan Joho (ODM), Senator Omar Hassan (Wiper) and Nyali MP Hezron Awiti for the county’s coveted seat said Jubilee aspirants deserved election since they exhibit the highest level of competence.

He was speaking to Jubilee MCA aspirants in Mombasa on Monday to discuss ways of strengthening Jubilee Party at grassroots level.

“I admire the quality of leaders our party has nominated; leaders who come from different backgrounds and age groups, but with a common Vision. We are ready to offer leadership to our people; leadership that shall be responsive to the needs of our people and not leadership that only defends the interest of the ruling class,” Shahbal said.

Shahbal, a re-known businessman with vast interests in the banking and real estate sectors has on several occasions faulted the ‘incompetence’ exhibited by Joho’s administration accusing the governor of failing to tackle key challenges facing Mombasa residents.

He claims Joho’s concentration in the last five years has been to grow private family businesses at the expense of service delivery.

He spoke a day after Joho officiated at the opening of a 2,000-seater capacity modern soccer stadium in Mombasa. The county chief says the facility will be used for nurturing youth soccer talent not only in Mombasa but across Coast region.

Shahbal said Jubilee unlike the opposition has a blend of young politicians with the energy to spearhead the ‘much needed’ transformation of the country.

The opposition is led by Raila Odinga who is taking a fourth stab at the presidency. He is deputized by former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka. Other key leaders battling the ruling regime include Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula and Isaac Ruto.
