The Kenya Muslim National Advisory Council chair Sheikh Juma Ngao has distanced the Muslim community from a group that visited President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, Nairobi recently where it endorsed his re-election bid.
Sheikh Ngao said the group was only after it's own interests and did not represent the community whatsoever.
“They were only after food. Muslims are not pocketed by other Muslim leaders. The truth is that only a few Muslims will vote for Jubilee," he told the Star on the phone on Monday.
He termed the group as liars saying the Muslim community hasn't appointed a spokesperson to speak on their behalf.
The Party of National Unity (PNU) vice chairman said the community hasn't benefited from the Uhuru administration which came to power in 2013.
“The Jubilee government has treated Muslims as second-class citizens,” he noted.
The cleric said the Jubilee administration has assisted miraa farmers, written off coffee debts and also revamped the Pan Paper Mills now Rai Mills in Webuye but has neglected areas with majority of Muslims.
“In the Coast, from Vanga to Taita Taveta, to Malindi, Tana River and Lamu, no farmer has been funded with money to do agriculture. We have not heard the government give North Eastern farmers funds in subsidies. These are two regions that host many Muslims,” he added.
He faulted Jubilee's plan to set up a dry port in Naivasha saying it was ill-advised as this will affect services at the port of Mombasa thus denying Coast residents jobs.
