Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has accused Jubilee Party of paying goons to disrupt his rally in Mpeketoni, Lamu County on Saturday.

Joho claimed that rowdy youth and locals were hired to disrupt his rally, adding that his rivals are out to frustrate his activities in the Coast region.“It is obvious that our rivals in Jubilee Party hired goons to disrupt our ODM/NASA meeting in Mpeketoni on Saturday,” said Joho, as quoted by the Nation.Governor Joho said Jubilee attempts to forcefully woo Coast votes will not be successful, saying that region is an opposition zone.“Jubilee should keep off Coast because no matter how hard they try to woo for votes they won’t succeed,” he said.On Saturday Joho met a hostile reception in Mpeketoni where he had gone to market ODM and NASA.Joho was forced to cut short his rally in the area after rowdy youth pelted his motorcade with stones, and heckled him, accusing him of disrespecting President Uhuru Kenyatta.Governor Joho later held a rally at Witu where he condemned the incident saying ODM still rules Coast politics.Governor Joho and President Kenyatta have recently been engaging in public verbal spats. On Monday last week, the Governor was locked out of Uhuru’s Mtongwe ferry relaunch.
