Via his social media handle, Maalim said the current administration has widely frustrated the Somali, Borana and Bajuni communities for years, especially when it comes to the issuance of national identification documents and cards.

He says that a large number of youths of Kenyan Somali origin have never received the vital documents despite having applied several months ago.

"The Jubilee government led by President Uhuru and his deputy Ruto have relegated Muslims to second class citizens. Why does it take people from Somali, Borana or Bajuni communities years to have IDs? They cannot get jobs, join colleges or even travel outside the country," Maalim expressed.

The issue of National identification cards has been a problem in North Eastern counties, with political leaders expressing concern on the pace at which registration clerks at the various immigration offices were registering locals.

There have also been concerns that people of Somali origin are being subjected to complex scrutiny and at times being victimized as being illegal immigrants from the war-torn country of Somalia.

However, the locals are optimistic that they will get the vital documents on time so that they can get a chance to exercise their democratic rights in the 2017 elections.
