A section of Jubilee leaders led by Senate Majority Leader Kindiki Kithure have accused National Super Alliance (Nasa) flag bearer Raila Odinga of intimidating independent institutions.
This follows sentiments made by the Opposition leader, Sunday, that Nasa would boycott the August 8 elections if the Court of Appeal overturns a High Court decision that final presidential results should be announced at the constituency level.
Addressing the press, Monday, the leaders claimed Raila’s remarks would polarise the country and whip up violent impulses.
“Raila Odinga and Nasa have embarked on an unlawful, dangerous confrontation with IEBC over the matter that is before the courts. Every time the Opposition feels the heat is too much, it resorts to intimidation and violence. The same Nasa forced us to replace IEBC commissioners. As Jubilee, we acceded because we wanted to avoid loss of lives. The same Nasa is now intimidating IEBC and the Judiciary,” said Kindiki.
“Nasa’s disregard for critical pillars of our democracy and their violent rhetoric exhibits a recklessness that is worrying. We therefore condemn Odinga’s careless statements and Nasa’s evil agenda,” he added.
Also present were Nominated MP Johnson Sakaja, Kericho senator Aoron Cheruiyot, Roysambu MP Waihenya Ndirangu, Victor Munyaka (Machakos Town ) and Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen.
