Laikipia county Women Representative Catherine Waruguru has called upon President Uhuru Kenyatta to avoid involvement in the ongoing referendum debate.
Speaking on Radio Jambo Wednesday evening, the leader pointed out that it will be unfortunate for the President to engage in the matter in any way, advising him to concentrate on his development agenda.
He noted that Kenyans expect nothing but the realization of the promises that were issued to them before giving the Jubilee government a second chance in office, saying that anything else will amount to dishonesty.
''President Uhuru Kenyatta never spoke about any referendum when he was seeking votes. He campaigned to be re-elected basing on his manifesto and should now give back to the nation by concentrating on his promises and not the ongoing referendum noise,'' she said.
She demanded the same from the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga-led opposition whose members are in full support of the constitutional change, advising them against attempts to incorporate themselves into the government.
According to the leader, the push for the expansion of the executive will weaken the alternative government, as it seeks to bring on board a section of the leaders who lost in the previous presidential race.
''We need an empowered and vibrant opposition. The opposition side should drop the referendum bid and concentrate on keeping the government on check,'' she added.
