Uasin Gishu County Assembly leaders have dismissed the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) call for the amendment of the constitution to create a prime minister position for the opposition leader.
The Jubilee Party leaders said the suggestion was ill-intended.
"As leaders from the county, we cannot allow such arrangements. One can only ascend to power through the ballot and not through the back door. Raila refused to be on the ballot. He should, therefore, retire from active politics," said Uasin Gishu County Assembly speaker David Kiplagat in Eldoret town on Wednesday.
"We read malice in their proposal and we suspect they are agents of Raila for Kenya to have a coalition government. We won't allow such amendments and if they will be brought for us to approve it will fail terribly," added the leader of majority Josephat Lowoi.
They reiterated that if the opposition leaders have issues with the just-concluded presidential election, they should seek redress at the Supreme Court rather than using church leaders to accomplish their mission.
They called upon NCCK to concentrate on religious matters and leave politics to politicians.
This comes after the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) urged members of parliament to amend the constitution to include the position of prime minister and his two deputies.
