Jubilee party Nakuru County acting chairman David Manyara has hit out at the opposition leader Raila Odinga for talking ill about a prayer rally at Afraha stadium.
On Friday, Raila said the only picture that comes to mind is that of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto leading a procession of Jubilee followers performing the ‘dance macabre’ over the graves of their fellow countrymen. This was in reference to the people who died during the 2007-08 post-election violence.
The duo led other Jubilee leaders in a thanksgiving-cum-prayer rally on Saturday in Nakuru over the collapse of the ICC cases.
However, Manyara on Monday said the opposition should respect decisions made by the majority who are the people in government and also respect the will of Kenyans to foster unity.
He said Raila embarrassed his Cord supporters by making such a statement about the prayer rally.
“Cord really ashamed Kenyans because it showed lack of respect for the government. We want to tell them that we are standing tall and strong and will not allow them to divide this country along tribal lines,” he said in Nakuru.
Manyara added that Jubilee party has a vision for Kenyans which is to unite the country.
He said, “we can elect someone to be the president even if he is not from Mt Kenya region and we will support Ruto (William - Deputy President) in 2022.”
Acting vice-chair John Kitilit said that President Kenyatta is following in the footsteps of his father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta who passed on the mantle to retired president Daniel Moi.
“Mzee Jomo Kenyatta passed on the mantle to Moi and he was supported by the Kikuyu and we will do the same thing and unite everyone because we do not want to have a divide Kenya on the basis of tribe,” said Kitilit.
