Don’t pave way for another candidate, hang on to face President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2017 general election, Jubilee leaders have told Raila Odinga.
Led by Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri and Water CS Eugene Wamwalwa, the leaders said their new party has captured all the regions in the country, including Nyanza, Raila's political stronghold.
Kiunjuri said Jubilee leaders want Cord leader Raila to be the presidential candidate for his coalition so that they can prove to him that they can still beat him like they did in 2013 polls.
“Let him not shelve his 2017 presidential ambitions and instead go for the county’s top seat so that we Jubilee can prove to him what we are made of,” he said this after launching irrigation projects worth more than Sh2 billion in Turkana, Pokot and Baringo.
Raila said he was willing to support another candidate to take on President Kenyatta, if it is proved that his candidacy would be an impediment to Cord's victory.
As he urged the Turkana community to support and vote for the re-election of President Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto, Kiunjuri however called on the government to institute within two months a committee that will oversee fair appointment of new IEBC officials.
Since both Jubilee and Cord leaders have agreed to send Issack Hassan’s team home, he said a new team should be appointed to start preparing for the 2017 elections.
