The leaders claim that the Cord leadership has failed the county in terms of development.

Led by Mombasa Jubilee Chairman Ali Mwatsahu, the leaders on Wednesday said counties whose governors were working with the government of the day were making progress in terms of infrastructure and youth employment.

"Our current governor has only succeeded in preventing the government from investing and developing our county. That is a bad move since Mombasa is lagging behind in terms of development,” said Mwatsahu.

“We think Balala presents the best outfit of those with leadership credentials and we shall make presentations to him to convince him to go for the seat,” Mr Mwatsahu said.

The leaders also lauded the Governor of Machakos County Alfred Mutua for welcoming President Uhuru Kenyatta and allowing him to tour the county saying “such is the kind of mature politics that should be practiced in Mombasa”.

However, Balala had earlier indicated that he has no intention of vying for the seat, adding that he will instead throw his weight behind popular businessman Suleiman Shahbal.
