Former presidential aspirant Peter Kenneth has received a boost in his quest to unseat Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero out of office in the forthcoming elections.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV's Power breakfast show on Monday, Kiharu MP Irungu Kangata threw his weight behind the former Gatanga MP saying he was best suited for the county's top job.
"For Peter Kenneth's bid, I can tell for a fact that we the people of Murang'a are 100 percent behind him. Peter is a performer and his record speaks for itself. If we need to help transform Nairobi, then Peter Kenneth is the one," he said.
The MP insisted that Kidero had failed Nairobi residents but on the other hand dismissed Senator Mike Sonko's bid saying his leadership style did not fit the complexities in the country's capital.
"Kidero has failed to manage Nairobi for sure," he said.
"Another candidate is Sonko, who is a personal friend, but I don't think Nairobi needs the kind of leadership we see in him. Managing Nairobi is complex and we need someone of Peter Kenneth's status," he added.
His sentiments were echoed by nominated Senator Beatrice Elachi who said she favours Kenneth's candidature, but at the same time is praying for a transparent way in coming up with Jubilee's candidate for the seat to avoid any wrangles.
"I am rallying behind Peter Kenneth but what we want in Jubilee is a clear process to determine who will be its candidate for Nairobi," she said.
This comes barely a few days after a section of Jubilee leaders led by Senator Mike Sonko said 'outsiders' should not vie for the Nairobi County top seat.
