The Jubilee Party has lost two politicians who decamped a few hours to party primaries.
Isiolo Senator Mohamed Kuti and Murang’a gubernatorial aspirant Moses Mwangi expressed fears that the nominations might not be free and fair.
Mwangi accused his competitors – Governor Mwangi Wa Iria and Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau – of plotting to rig the elections.
“In view of the prevailing circumstances where emerging information suggest potential massive rigging… I hereby tender my resignation from being a member and candidate for the Jubilee Party,” the aspirant said during a press conference Thursday evening.
Isiolo Senator Kuti after decamping from the President’s party said he will announce his next destination today, Friday.
Key battles are expected in Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Tharaka- Nithi, Kiambu, Embu and Meru counties.
Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru, Kirinyaga Central MP Gachoki Gitari and incumbent Joseph Ndathi will be battling for the Jubilee ticket in the race for Kirinyaga governor seat.
In Nyeri, Governor Samuel Wamathai will face Senator Mutahi Kagwe, Wahome Gakuru, industrialists Githinji Cocoriko Kinyanjui and hotelier Patrick Kairu in the ballot.
Voting begun at 6am in some of the polling stations.
