Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has sensationally claimed that Nasa leader Raila Odinga and his Nasa team helped French firm Safran win its first contract in 2013.
According to Wamalwa, the former premier ordered for a direct procurement of the Kenya Integrated Electronic Management System kits from Safran Morpho.
“In 2012, the election subcomitteee was under Raila. His proposal (for direct procurement) was seconded by James Orengo (Siaya Senator), who was then Lands Cabinet Minister,” claimed Wamalwa.
He added: “Raila knows how the company got the contract and he cannot lie to Kenyans that the company has a bad reputation,”
The issue on whether the company will be allowed to supply kits for the October 17 presidential polls has been raging on, with NASA insisting that they will not go to the polls with the same company.
Morpho has also indicated that they will not be in a position to deliver the needed kits within the stipulated time, saying they need more than the 28 remaining days for the delivery of the kits.
On Monday, Raila Odinga insisted the coalition is not ready to go to the polls with Morpho and Dubai based printing firm Al Ghurair, which provided ballot papers for the August polls.
Wamalwa spoke on Monday in Busia County, during a rally that was attended by Deputy President William Ruto and other Jubilee members.
