Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire believes that the Jubilee government cannot use its financial muscle to buy voters from opposition strongholds in the name of holding meetings with elected leaders.
Bosire’s sentiments come after several leaders from regions perceived to be opposition strongholds have expressed their desire to work with the government, with top opposition leader Raila Odinga occasionally accusing the government of ‘buying’ the politicians.
Speaking to this writer on Sunday, Bosire accused the government of hiding in the politics of development by frustrating leaders who supported the opposition.
“I want to assure the government that their money cannot buy an ordinary person who is experiencing economic crisis everyday due to bad governance,” he said, adding that development is not negotiable whether in opposition or government.
“Buying politicians who have no interests of people at heart from opposition regions cannot translate to votes. I am pretty sure that those they have bribed cannot even be able to make it to Parliament or even local assemblies. Voters are clever and cannot be bought,” he added.
He challenged the Jubilee government to divert the resources towards real development instead of influencing politicians who have lost touch with people to join them.
“When you use cash to buy a politician, you should bear in mind that he or she cannot purchase followers who are undergoing difficulties in terms of development. The funds being poured into opposition regions should be used for meaningful development that Jubilee lacks,” he said.
Gusii, Coast and Western are among key opposition regions that have witnessed mass exodus of politicians who have shown interest in working with Jubilee.
