A Jubilee Member of Parliament has backed Nandi Hills lawmaker Alfred Keter's arrest, terming it as justifiable.
Speaking during an interdenominational prayer service held at Chepkemel Primary School grounds in Turbo Uasin Gishu county Sunday, Kesses MP Swarup Mishra said that Keter was arrested for a possible wrongdoing, and is therefore rightfully in custody.
Keter was on Friday arrested at the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) over alleged forgery of treasury bills worth 633 million shillings.
A section of leaders from the Rift Valley region have read mischief in the arrest, saying that he is being punished over a recent disagreement with the presidency, after he defied calls to the surrender parliamentary Labor Committee leadership, allegations Mishra is opposed to.
''The other day one of us was arrested for economic crime and it is constitutional for such individuals to be arrested, detained and prosecuted,'' he said.
According to Mishra, condemnations from a section of Rift Valley leaders does not mean that the entire region is opposed to his arrest.
''Some leaders have expressed their disapproval of the arrest but that does not mean that that's the entire Rift Valley's stand. The media should report correctly to avoid misleading Kenyans,'' he added.
Cherangany lawmaker Joshua Kuttuny and his Moiben counterpart Silas Tiren have been in the front line in advocating for Keter's release.
