Gatundu South Mp elect Moses Kuria commended a move by SRC to cut the legislators' salary.

According to Kuria, SRC should slash his pay by a further 15%.

Through a Facebook post on Thursday, Kuria asked SRC chair Sarah Serem team to revoke his allowances.

"I commend you for revoking all my sitting allowances, otherwise, I would have been tempted to also claim squatting or sleeping allowances", he posted.

Kuria said the proposed pay reductions will help raise funds for free day secondary education.

"I trust that with my reduced salary and no sitting allowances, we can now work towards subsidising fees in boarding schools," he said.

The vocal legislator said the saved monies from the pay cut will be spent on providing free meals for poor malnourished children in primary schools.

"If we do that, we will reduce the strain on our bursaries thus reducing my headache as Mp for Gatundu South", he added.

SRC announced pay cuts for state officers, including the president, deputy president, MPs, Cabinet secretaries and civil servants but some newly elected Mps have accused SRC for plans to reduce them to beggars.
