More than 22 families in Kibingei ward of Kimilili Constituency have had their homes undergo massive modernisation with iron-sheets in an ambitious plan that seeks to rid the Bugoma-based constituency, of grass-thatched houses.
The project that kicked off in December last year will see more than 300 iron-sheets-roofed structures put up by end of February, in what the area MP Didmus Barasa describes as the first phase of the project.
While addressing residents of Sawa village, Kibingei ward at Mzee Francis Nyongesa's home - one of the beneficiary, the lawmaker said he will ensure every person in Kimilili lives a better life.
"Ever since we started this project we have put up 206 mabati houses and I'm happy that we are left with 72 houses to upgrade in the whole constituency. And within three weeks, we will not have any grass-thatched house in Kimilili," he said on Monday.
The Jubilee MP indicated his future plans included establishing a community water bottling plant.
"This water project will not be mine, but it will be for all of us as Kimilili people, and water that will be used in this plant will be bought from Kimilili people."
"This will be done in shifts so that we can cover the all constituency and by doing so we will be ensuring that everyone benefits from this project," said the lawmaker.
