Irate youths believed to be supporting opposition leader Raila Odinga periodically interrupted and forced Bonchari MP Zebedeo Opore to cut short his speech and clear from the podium on Friday.

This comes amid cases of political intolerance across the country that also saw Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and his crew face hostility in Migori last week.

Trouble began when Opore took to the stage and seized the opportunity to question development record of Governor James Ongwae, after which he drummed support President Uhuru Kenyatta’s reelection.

“Ongwae has simply failed and we have to send him packing. It is also important to reelect our President for good work he is doing,” said Opore amid pro-opposition chants by irate youths.

And he literally had to handover microphone to Ongwae, who had also attended the funeral to Kisii County Women Representative Mary Otara’s mother in law.

Opore, completely shaken and out of touch, drove hastily from the funeral as pro-Odinga chants clouded in the air before Ongwae restored order.

“It is important that we give all speakers fair share of time,” said Ongwae adding that he was confident of reelection.

Jubilee strategists have earmarked Gusii region as a tossup and has seen both President Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto tour the area in a number of occasions.
