Kitui South MP Rachel Nyamai has come to Governor Charity Ngilu's defense over allegations of incitement to violence in regards to charcoal and sand harvesting ban.
Speaking to residents in Mutomo in Kitui County on Thursday, Nyamai said she supports Governor Ngilu's charcoal ban.
The Jubilee MP said the allegations that Ngilu incited locals to violence were unfounded asserting it was wrong for the matter to be politicized.
Nyamai said the charcoal ban was in the interest of environmental conservation.
She said politicians should stop dragging politics into the issue.
"I don't think Governor Ngilu incited youth to violence as some politicians are alleging, what she told residents is for them to safeguard their environment by stopping charcoal burning and sand harvesting," Nyamai said.
Nyamai said charcoal and sand harvesting ban will go along way in conserving the environment that has been under threat over the years.
She asked locals and neighboring communities who had been engaging in charcoal burning as means of survival to look for alternative source of livelihoods.
Governor Ngilu has been under criticism with allegations that she incited youth to torch a lorry that was ferrying charcoal in Kanyororo, Kitui, two weeks ago.
A section of Kiambu politicians led by Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been demanding for Ngilu's arrest and prosecution over the matter.
The Kitui county boss has, however, denied allegations of inciting locals to violence, stating that she is not aware of the vehicle that was burned down over the charcoal ban.
Ngilu said the ban on charcoal and sand harvesting was unstoppable.
On Tuesday, the Kitui Governor moved to court seeking orders to stop her possible arrest and prosecution over the alleged incitement.
A Kitui court issued her with Sh50,000 anticipatory bond stopping the police from arresting her.
The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) on Tuesday summoned the governor.
Ngilu did not honor the summons instead moved to court seeking anticipatory bail.
