Kitui South MP Rachel Nyamai has vehemently denied reports of sponsoring certain individuals to tarnish Governor Charity Ngilu’s name.
Nyamai said she has no links with individuals allegedly running smear campaigns against Ngilu on social media.
Addressing journalists at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi on Monday, Nyamai said she respects Ngilu hence cannot tarnish her image or that of her county government.
The Jubilee MP said there is a plot to soil her name by dragging her into the ant-Ngilu propagandist’s scheme.
She asked the police to conduct investigations and clear her name against claims she has been supporting those said to be tarnishing Ngilu's image.
Nyamai denied reports that she is not seeing eye to eye with Ngilu.
The MP said Ngilu is her personal friend, political mentor and that they have been holding talks on development issues.
“There is a plot by certain people to create rifts between governor Ngilu and I in efforts to scuttle development,” Nyamai said.
Nyamai asked Kitui residents not to fall to propaganda stating will continue working with Ngilu on development.
Ngilu and Nyamai’s political relationship has been thorny since the MP ditched Narc Party in 2015 and joined Jubilee.
The two politicians have several times differed publicly with Ngilu accusing Nyamai of allegedly frustrating her development agenda.
Nyamai on the other hand has been quoted accusing Ngilu of sidelining her constituency on the ‘Ndengu Revolution’ Project.
Last week, police arrested former Kitui Government Communications Director Muasya Mutisya who had been accused of working with certain individuals to defame and soil Ngilu’s name on social media.
A month ago Ngilu suspended seven county Public Rations staff over what she termed as gross misconduct in their duties.Jubilee MP denies defaming Ngilu.
