Jubilee followers in Nakuru’s Bahati constituency have castigated their MP Kimani Ngunjiri after he 'disrespected' President Uhuru Kenyatta’s decision when he (Ngunjiri) rejected Susan Kihika as the region’s Jubilee Presidential campaign coordinator.
Led by MP aspirant Crispus Wathimba, the over 1000 residents said Ngunjiri’s stance was meant to disrupt Jubilee’s campaign strategy prior to the next general elections.
Wathimba accused Ngunjiri of opening cracks in the party even as the party prepares for one of the toughest elections.
“As residents of Bahati we made one of the biggest political blunders by electing Mr Ngunjiri but we have learnt a lesson,” Wathimba said.
“Mr Ngunjiri is a big disgrace not only to the people of Bahati but to the entire Jubilee leadership and we urge President Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto to crack the whip and discipline him for showing open disrespect to the party’s top leadership,” he added.
Ngunjiri had earlier dismissed Ms Kihika’s appointment as a “joke of the year”, arguing that she was not a good strategist and that the only person fit to lead the campaign in the region was Governor Kinuthia Mbugua.
“Ngunjiri is a confused Kanu operative disguising as a Jubilee MP in Nakuru County and since he represents the past, it is high time Jubilee leadership condemns him into the dustbin of history by kicking him out of the party,” said Mr Geoffrey Kamau, a resident, as quoted by the Nation.
Wathimba praised Kihika as a youthful leader with the energy to propel Jubilee to the next level.
“Ms Kihika is a young, forthright and promising leader and anybody calling her appointment the joke of the year is a slow punctured politician,” said Mr Wathimba.
