Kitui South MP Rachel Kaki Nyamai has hit out at the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) for proposing creation of Prime Minister (PM) position to allegedly accommodate opposition leaders.
Nyamai says that the NCCK proposal is a waste of time and ill advised.
Speaking to journalists at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi on Thursday, the Jubilee MP said that creation Prime Minister Position is not the solution to electoral issues facing the country.
She further said that there is no need for such positions since opposition leaders lost fairly in the August 8 presidential election and the October 26 repeat poll.
“The proposal by NCCK is not in good faith because there is no need of creating positions for people who were rejected by Kenyans on the ballot” she said on Thursday.
Nyamai further noted that creation of the positions will balloon the country’s wage bill and deny Kenyans access to quality services.
NCCK has proposed expansion of the executive arm of the government to create room for Prime Minister, two deputies and official leader of the opposition.
According NCCK Secretary General, canon Peter Karanja, creation of this positions will ensure inclusivity in government.
A section of politicians allied to Jubilee have rubbished the proposal saying it’s advocating for a coalition government.
This comes after Uhuru Kenyatta was declared president elect in the October 26 repeat poll that the opposition withdrew and asked supporters to boycott.
The opposition has since questioned the voter turnout in the repeat poll that declared Uhuru winner claiming that only 3.5 million voters turned out contrary to IEBC 7.6 million.
