Moiben Member of Parliament Silas Tiren has claimed that vocal Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter was arrested after he defied President Uhuru Kenyatta's orders on sharing parliamentary slots.
While speaking in Eldoret town on Friday, a few hours after Anti-banking Fraud Unit officers pounced on Keter, Tiren expressed fears over the state of Democracy in the country.“If we are going to be targeted for defending public interests how are we expected to discharge our duties as duly elected representatives of the people. My best bet is that he was arrested for disagreeing with the party on house positions,” Tiren said.He also demanded the immediate release of the legislator arguing that there are different avenues of solving disagreements.“We demand the immediate release of Keter and if they (government) are charging him with anything let them take him to court,” he said.Tiren and Keter were among five Jubilee lawmakers who were dared to quit the party by the vice chairman David Murathe "if they insisted with their defiant stand".Keter has spent two nights in police custody after he was arrested on Friday alongside Madat Chatur and Arthur Sakwa for allegedly attempting to defraud the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) with fake Treasury bills amounting to Sh663m.
