Opposition chief Raila Odinga has been cautioned against using the now famous handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta to advance his selfish political interests.
Kesses Member of Parliament Dr. Swarup Mishra further wants Odinga to stop using the truce between him and President Kenyatta to champion for a constitutional change.
Speaking to the press at Kipchamo in his constituency on Wednesday, Mishra noted that the handshake was meant to unify the country and has nothing to do with the 2022 succession politics.
“We are not in any way against the handshake but we want to remind the opposition leader that the agreement he reached with the President had nothing to do with the referendum push he is now championing,” said Mishra.
The Jubilee MP who is serving his first term in Parliament further insisted that the party’s presidential candidate in 2022 did not change when the President agreed to work with the opposition.
“Our candidate for President in 2022 remains William Ruto and nothing will change that, even the handshake has no power to alter what was agreed upon a long time ago,” he added.
There have been concerns within the DP Ruto’s camp following the handshake with some allies expressing fears that it might be used to scuttle the Jubilee party’s game plan in the next polls.
