Jubilee MPs in Bungoma county have urged residents to turn out in large numbers and cast their votes for President Uhuru Kenyatta despite leaflets promising harm.
The MPs assured the residents of safety, adding that police had been deployed to guarantee that everyone exercises their democratic right.
MPs Dan Wanyama (Webuye), John Waluke (Sirisia) and Fred Kapondi (Mt Elgon) said anyone causing disturbance would be arrested.
“Police are on standby, waiting to arrest anyone who will try to cause violence or any form of chaos. They will be taken to jail,” Wanyama said.
“Any youth or boda boda operator who will try to disrupt election will be arrested and you will never come back to your home again,” he added.
This comes following tension in Bungoma after hate leaflets against would-be voters were circulated last weekend.
The leaflets warned residents of dire consequences if they participated in today's election and were circulated in the county’s major towns of Bungoma, Webuye, Kimilili and Chwele.
