Nyeri town Mp Ngunjiri Wambugu has maintained that it is still early to talk about 2022 politics.
According to Wambugu, talking about 2022 politics is disrespectful to President Uhuru Kenyatta and it negatively affects his (Uhuru) work towards securing his legacy.
Taking to his Facebook page on Tuesday, Wambugu further chastised some Rift Valley Mps for calling on the Mount Kenya region to 'return the hand' and vote for Deputy President William Ruto come 2022. In his view, 2022 politics should be left to National Super Alliance (NASA) that was not elected in 2017.
"First I said that it’s completely irresponsible for us to be discussing 2022 politics this early in Uhuru’s second term. It’s disrespectful to him and negatively affects his work towards securing his Legacy. 2022 politics we leave to NASA and we focus on working for Kenyans after the mandate they gave us for 2017/2022. Second I said that when we do get to 2022 my vote will be conditional on three things; 1. How we finish this term. 2. How much freedom we are allowed to have to disagree politically. 3. What is in it for ‘us’. Us here is not personal to me. It’s about what my constituency & my region," posted Wambugu.
The Mp also affirmed that he is not scared of threats purporting to indicate that he will not be re-elected come 2022.
He believes he was elected to serve the people of Nyeri for the 2017/2022 period and they (people of Nyeri) will decide on who gets to serve in the 2022/2027 term.
"For those who keep trying to scare me that I will not be re-elected in 2022 in Nyeri, for speaking my mind, please note that I have not been elected for 2022; I was elected for the 2017/2022 period. This term has its expectation and dynamics. The Nyeri MP seat is not my seat. It belongs to the people of Nyeri. God .. and the people of Nyeri .. will decide who serves Nyeri in 2022/2027," added Wambugu.
