The 2022 succession politics continues to dominate headlines, with two Jubilee politicians from the Mt Kenya region clashing over supporting Deputy President William Ruto in 2022.
The clash involved Gatundu South lawmaker Moses Kuria and his Nyeri Town counterpart Ngunjiri Wambugu.
Kuria, who is in support of Ruto was angered when Ngunjiri made comments that Ruto might not be backed by the Central Kenya region.
“I want to tell Wambugu that we (Mt Kenya) are not being forced to elect Ruto as the next president. It is our will since Ruto stood with President Uhuru Kenyatta when everybody had abandoned him,” said Mr Kuria, he said on Sunday.
“He (Ruto) is also the right person for the seat. We have no option but to help him ascend to the presidency. We don’t want sideshows,” Kuria added.
His comments arise from a post Wambugu shared, saying the will only vote for a leader who will ensure President Kenyatta’s legacy was carried on well.
“My vote - and for those that I can influence - will depend on the points above. Period. Nobody is or has ever been supported for the presidency of any country 'unconditionally',” he said.
He added: “Most importantly in 2022 my vote will not depend on betrayal or paying debts; there's no such thing in politics,”
The two leaders moved to quell rumours that there was trouble in the Jubilee Party and said they are behind President Kenyatta’s government.
