Two Jubilee MPs were forced to cut short their speech on Tuesday as a roadside rally turned chaotic following interruption by suspected NASA supporters.
Joash Nyamoko (North Mugirango) and Shadrack Mose (Kitutu Masaba) were forced to abandon a rally at Kemera in Nyamira county as youths allied to NASA chanted anti – Jubilee slogans.
Trouble started when Nyamoko maintained that opposition leader Raila Odinga was not welcome in the region, a statement that seemed to have angered the youths.
Caught by surprise, the convoy of the two leaders hastily left the market center towards Nyamira as the youths started chanting pro – Odinga slogans.
Barely three kilometers away, another group of NASA supporters thronged in the streets of Kisii Town where they condemned a Monday incident in which Kisii Women Representative Janet Ong’era is believed to have been attacked by the police in Nairobi.
For the last two months, cases of extremism among Jubilee and NASA supporters have deteriorated in the region, with the deadly one coming when President Uhuru Kenyatta attacked Chief Justice David Maraga.
During the August 8th elections, Uhuru managed to score 52% of the total votes from the region that has traditionally voted Odinga.
