A Jubilee MP has cautioned President Uhuru Kenyatta against appointing opposition leaders to his new government.Kesses MP Swarup Mishra argued that it is important to have a strong and focused opposition to keep the government in check."It would be wrong of the President to include opposition members in the soon-to-be-unveiled cabinet. I say this because the role of the opposition is to keep the government of the day in check. How will that happen if, for example, key lieutenants of Raila Odinga are appointed to the cabinet?” asked Mishra. In an opinion piece published by the Standard, Mishra noted that deciding who to 'poach' from NASA to join Uhuru's administration will not be a walk in the park."There is no guarantee that the people from across the political divide will be loyal to the President. If they did not believe in him during elections, they may turn out to be opposition moles and in turn sabotage the government in delivering its mandate," he stated. The MP further said although there is a need for national unity and harmony in the country, it cannot be achieved through incorporating NASA politicians in the government."Uhuru can engage in dialogue with Raila on how to move the country ahead, but not on sharing power," Mishra added.
