Jubilee allied MPs found the ground hostile in most polling centres and villages, with youths who were alleged to be allied to the ODM party chasing them literally and on some occasions, stoning their vehicles.

Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka, Stephen Manoti (Bobasi), Richard Tongi (Nyaribari Chache), Zebedayo Opore (Bonchari) and Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi were attacked by angry youths in different incidents over alleged voter bribery.

At Isena polling station, the angry youths who were chanting ODM slogans almost beat up Opore as they escorted him to his vehicle, ordered him to vacate the premises.

At Mogonga, Maangi’s vehicle was pelted with stones when he attempted to persuade residents to vote for the Jubilee candidate, Maxwell Magoma.

ODM Chief Agent Janet Ong’era defended the youths insisting that they were protecting election laws by condemning malpractices.

“I think the youths were basically trying to challenge leaders to respect election laws. Some of these politicians were bribing people openly,” she said.

“It’s clear that during elections we are not supposed to campaign but our opponents simply violated that basic rule,” she added.

None of the five MPs who spoke to the media as their phones were either off or went unanswered for the better part of Wednesday.
