Ferdinand Waititu (Kabete), Moses Kuria (Gatundu South), Kimani Ichung’wa (Kikuyu), Alice Ng’ang’a (Thika town) and Dennis Waweru of Dagoretti South say Cord leaders have continued to organise anti-IEBC protests despite a court order barring them.

Justice Joseph Onguto Monday certified the case as urgent and directed Siaya Senator James Orengo to appear in court on Thursday, as he has been adversely mentioned in the contempt of court petition.

“The petition seeks interpretation of the rule of law and respect for court orders. I therefore certify it as urgent and order parties be served immediately,” said Justice Onguto.

The lawmakers argue that the Monday anti-IEBC protests had been barred by court, yet Cord was still organising them.

This comes after 3 people died in the Monday protests. Two were shot by police in Siaya while one succumbed to head injuries at Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu.

Odinga, who led the anti-IEBC demonstrations in Nairobi, said the opposition will continue with the weekly protests until IEBC commissioners leave office.

The ODM leader dismissed claims that the demos were illegal, and urged Cord supporters not fall for the "cheap propaganda" by police.

"The demonstrations are within their rights as stipulated in Article 37 and 38 of the Constitution," he said.

Meanwhile, Cord has announced plans to hold a 'fierce' anti-IEBC protest in Nairobi on June 1, Madaraka Day.
