Jubilee officials in Kwale County have dared Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho to visit and campaign in the county. They told the ODM deputy party leader that he comes from Mombasa and therefore his campaigns should be confined within the county where he was elected in 2013.The team made the remarks two days after Joho's public rally was disrupted by heavily armed administration police and General Service Unit officers in Kinango, Kwale.Joho and Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi had convened the rally to drum up support for the opposition National Super Alliance (NASA)."Make sure your meetings are permitted by the police," Jubilee's Team Mvurya chairman Akili Luwanzi said at a press conference on Friday."Confine your campaigns in Mombasa. However, if you want to visit Kwale notify the leadership here. You should also respect the leaders from Kwale."During the Thursday fracas, law enforcement agencies accused Joho of holding rallies not permitted by the police.Joho and Kingi on the other hand accused the police of being partisan. The two county chiefs also accused Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya of fueling the cancellation of the rallies."We are surprised that with the new Constitution, such things can still happen," Joho said."It is disheartening when people are beaten for no apparent reason,” he added.Kwale, the county at the centre of the fracas is headed by Governor Salim Mvurya who in 2016 left the opposition NASA and joined Jubilee Party.Joho has vowed to ensure he is not re-elected in August.
