This comes after the auditor general said billions of shillings cannot be accounted for in the last financial year.

Leaders from both the Jubilee and NASA divide have waded into the debate, with some pointing an accusing finger over the spiraling debt and overspending.

Speaking on Tuesday during a morning show on NTV, former Senator Bonny Khalwale said the government needs to come out clean on the matter.

“What saddens is not the figures, but its because as they appear today, a common mwananchi might think they came up today. These projects have been here from even the Moi and Kibaki regimes,”

“Reports led by the auditor general are never acted upon because the person who is supposed to act upon them is the executive and the executive is part of the pilferage of public funds, they would not want to investigate themselves,” he adds.

According to Kericho senator Aaron Cheruiyot, some public procurement are questionable, and he thanked the auditor general for highlighting on the matters.

“I want to commend the auditor general for raising these issues. We have not been able to fight this corruption, we are struggling with the little things that contribute to this wastage,” he said.
