Involvement of children in campaigns is unacceptable, Mombasa senatorial candidate Mohammed Faki has said.
Faki, an ODM candidate, wants action taken against leaders aligned to Jubilee for allegedly involving children in their rallies.Addressing journalists, Faki said leaders inviting children to rallies are going against the law of the country. The aspirant also said politicians are putting the lives of children at risk since violence has become common in rallies.Faki cited President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Sunday rally at Jomvu in which he claims hundreds of children attended the event, adding that Education CS Fred Matiang’i should take action against such leaders.“It is unlawful for politicians to use students in their political campaigns. We saw it on Sunday during President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jomvu rally. We saw hundreds of students being ferried to cheer the president,” said Faki, as quoted by Baraka FM.On her part, Haki Africa’s Salma Hemed lamented that they have been getting complainants from the public over the issue in the past few months. She asked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to follow up on the issue and take necessary action.
