Differences between the ruling Jubilee Party and the Opposition have gone notch higher, paralysing operations at the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
This is after the National Assembly failed to debate and elect nominated candidates to the Assembly, before its recess Sine Die, June 15, 2017.The House adjourned, Thursday, pushing the crucial matter to the next 12th Parliament, after the August 8 polls.EALA Speaker Kenneth Madete wrote to all member states, informing them that sittings of the assembly were suspended until Kenya elects its nominees.“Due to the foregoing we are unable to proceed with the activities related to the inauguration of the 4th assembly, this is therefore to notify you that the first sitting of the assembly is hereby suspended until further notice," read part of the letter, seen by the Daily Nation.Members of the Opposition at the National Assembly, led by Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire, Minority Whip Thomas Mwadeghu and Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati, warned that their Jubilee rivals were dictating them to change some names in the submitted nominee list, which they vowed to reject.Opposition nominated Ronald Ngeny, Judith Pareno, Abubakar Zein and Kennedy Musyoka, to EALA.
