The Jubilee Party has orchestrated an own coup on its own committee chairpersons in parliament triggering a verbal war among members of parliament.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto on Thursday summoned over 60 Jubilee MPs, in the house committees of elected chairs and vice chairs.

During the meeting in Nairobi, members were directed to pass votes of no confidence resolutions in the leadership of the four controversial committees and have them removed.

Nandi Hills lawmaker Alfred Keter, who was elected the chair of the Labour and Social Welfare committee accused statehouse of intimidating members and interfering with the oversight role of parliament.

Keter, Silas TIren, David Kango and Alex Kosgei were all summoned to statehouse accompanied by the over 60 MPs in the four committees.

Keter and the other three leaders did not attend the meeting, though all the other members were present.

“Members of parliaments have been summoned to the statehouse, they were given directions to sign letters purporting they were not in their right senses when they voted for us,” said Keter.

However, Majority whip Benjamin Washiali defended the president and statehouse, saying they had nothing to do with the latest happenings.

“This is not about arm-twisting, it is not about the president deciding anything, in fact, leave the president out of this,” said Washiali.
