Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has accused the Jubilee government of hatching a plan to divide the country along tribal lines ahead of the 2017 elections.
Addressing Cord supporters at Lunyofu Stadium in Budalangi on Wednesday, when he joined ODM party leader Raila Odinga in his tour of the Western region, Joho claimed Jubilee is planning to criss-cross the country to convince opposition supporters to form their own parties.
“Jubilee is trying a new tact where they encourage different counties to form their own parties while telling their affiliate parties to dissolve and join one party,” said Joho, as quoted by Citizen Digital.
The governor said the move is aimed at dividing Cord's votes to ensure Jubilee remains the ruling coalition.
Joho reiterated that the Coast region remains an ODM stronghold, adding that he will not allow Jubilee to weaken the party.
He further rubbished Jubilee claims of dividing the Western region's votes, and urged the Luhya community to put their weight behind Raila, in a bid to ensure his presidential ambitions are fulfilled.
The governor said Kenyans had lost faith in the government, adding that he will pass the message to Jubilee when they hold their rallies at the Coast.
“I would like to assure them that when they come to the Coast with their plans, I will use their podium to tell them how Kenyans have lost faith in them,” said Joho.
