Elgeyo/Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, who is also among the founding members of the URP and a fierce defender of the Jubilee alliance, has defended the extravagant launch of the Jubilee Party terming it as a show of great things Jubilee has in store for Kenyans.
"The building is just a start of the big things that Jubilee has in store. We are serious about building institutions that will outlast this generation and our desire is to show Kenyans that we are not there to build a party only as an election vehicle. We take this process seriously and it will be a legacy of President Kenyatta to form a formidable political outfit that will mobilise Kenyans around issues," said the lawmaker in a statement.
The senator, who also doubles as the chairperson of the Committee on Devolved Government, was reacting to persistent attacks from their critics on the lavish spending for the three-day long launch.
The Jubilee Party that was launched last week had an estimate budget of about Sh2b, (including an eight-storey building as the party headquarters at Forest Road in Pangani and hundreds of Jubilee branded high-end cars).
Some expressed fears that it might be state funds being used by Jubilee Party.
URP, co-founded by Murkomen, is among the parties that dissolved to form Jubilee Party President Uhuru and his deputy will use to seek re-election next year.
