President Uhuru Kenyatta has moved to quell possible fallouts in Central region with an assurance that the Jubilee Party will not impose any candidate during party nominations.
Speaking on Monday in Kieni, Nyeri County, the President said the primaries will be free and fair and the choice of the people will carry the day.
“We do not have a candidate of choice as party leaders. We will have to go by the decision you make as voters on the candidates you want,” he said while addressing a gathering at Chaka grounds.
He also pledged to offer jobs to those who will not clinch the party ticket urging them to support the winners and stick with the party.
Uhuru's assurance comes amid disquiet among aspirants for various seats in the region who have expressed fears that the nominations may not be conducted in a fair manner after incumbent leaders were selected to lead Jubilee campaign team ahead of 2017 polls.
Among those picked include Nyeri governor Nderitu Gachagua, Nyeri MP Esther Murugi and Murang’a Women’s Representative Sabina Chege.
